Budget Hotel in London

Heylo,
Could anyone please help me by suggesting a hotel for 2 people in London, not necessarily in Zone 1, but could be in subsequent zones too. My budget for 3 nights is 200€, i know taht's like peanuts when it comes to London, but that's all I got! I cnt consider hostels with throngs of people sleeping in stuffy rooms, so avoid those as suggestions!
Thank you sooo much!
Cheers

Your best bet is not to search for a hotel but rather an air/hotel package that includes a hotel. This is where you'll get the best breaks on high London hotel prices. You can do this whether you are flying from the U.S. or the EU.

Your budget could easily get a 4 star hotel using Priceline.

I second Priceline. Easily done for 200E.

Is that Euro 200 per night, or the total for all three nights -- your post suggests the total for all three nights. Maybe others have had better success, but I have never seen a non-hostel room for Euro 66.67 per night in London (what's that, like 35 pounds or so?).

If you do in fact mean €200 for 3 nights - that is only £44 a night. If your budget is that low staying out in the suburbs won't really help much since even a modest B&B will be more than that for a double room. Plus the added transport expense and extra time to get places would negate any savings.

Priceline is your very best bet. Check out biddingfortravel.com fo information about London hotels/bids. You can just get a central hotel for that much - try the Knightsbridge/Kensington/Earls Court zone since it has nice hotels for about the lowest PL rates. But you will have to pay taxes on top of whatever you bid so keep that in mind.

(if you meant €200 per night - ignore the above because you'd have MANY choices for hotels - but if it is €200 for all - then PL is the way to go)

Don't dismiss hostels, many of which have private rooms. Check http://www.yha.org.uk and click on London.

Your success with Priceline and the "winning" price is going to depend a great deal on what your dates are, but many great deals are available.

I assume you do mean 200 Euros for 3 nights, because of your hostel mention. Or do you mean 200 pounds, by chance?

Depends on where you're going to London, Travelodge has special rates and I recently managed to booked Travelodge City Airport (zone 3) for GBP26 per night for two nights, you do need to be flexible about the dates. Good luck!
The hotel is quite far away from DLR, so you would need another bus ride, however the travelpasses (which I do assume you do buy) shouldn't make too much difference in terms of travel cost.

My husband and I just returned from London where we stayed at the new Travelodge and would not recommend it for anything except price. At 49 pounds per night, it is probably unbeatable in price but also an example of "you get what you pay for".

From the moment we arrived to an unsurly receptionist informing us that we could not check in early and could not leave our bags, to the countless times we were met with unhospitable feedback to our questions and the key card which continually did not work, we were happy to leave and never return.

I am British and my husband American so I don't think it has to do with anything other than a general disinterest in the clientele and refusal to bend any of the "rules".

When we arrived, we were waiting in the hotel restaurant for our room to be prepared and were informed we could not eat or drink anything since "breakfast hours were over" , despite the fact we could see there was plenty of food on the buffet.

Another significant point to consider is that there are no phones in the rooms which we thought to be somewhat of a safety hazard (to say nothing of the inconvenience). This means there is no way of communicating to anyone if there is a problem. As it happened, my husband had to intervene at 3am in a drunken domestic disturbance in the next room as he was unable to call out for anyone to take action.

Having spent so much time around wonderful hospitality and kindness of my fellow Brits, it was extremely disappointing to receive such un-British attitude.

amarja - you might consider Baden Powell House. It used to be for people associated with scouting only, but it accepts all now. They have private rooms with private shower etc. There is a chance you will have youth on the floor, but they are usually well cared for by their leaders. Ideally located near two tube stations and next door to the Victoria and Albert Museum (Kensington area).

teacherCanada: amarja posted this back ing June and hasn't been back since - would seem she won't see your suggestion.

Gabi7: There are many Travelodges in London - probably more than a dozen so your warning is missing some key information. Like which property you are talking about? (Topping a months old thread isn't usually the best way to post this sort of thing)

Three years ago we stayed at Cherry Court Hotel - a few blocks from Victoria station. the location is excellent and the room is clean, the staff helpful. The rooms are the smallest I have ever seen anywhere. there was about a foot on either side of the bed, no where to put suitcases except on the bed, a tiny bathroom ...but the shower was good, plenty of warm water.
So consider this place if you want clean, safe and convenient at low cost and can live without "extras" like elbow room

You could try www.lastminute.com - I got the Paddington Hilton for £63pn RO for a double a few months ago, booking about 2 weeks in advance.

In August we stayed at the Barkston Gardens Hotel in Earls Court for 65 pounds per night for a family room. Nothing fancy but convient to tube, pubs, restaurants and it included breakfast. We booked directly thru their web site barkstongardens.com

I'll try again -- the OP posted this back in June and hasn't been back to the forum since. Gabi topped it to post a complaint about some Travelodge.
