Going in May myself - - can't tell if you have already done basic background reading, and you now want personal impressions - - or if you don't know where to start.

If it is the latter, then here is some good overview help, for Prague:

http://www.prague-museums.com/

And check out www.jasoncholt.com as well - - Jason himself is an occasional participant here.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Beautiful cathedrals abound in all 3 cities. You should read up and visit the most interesting ones. For concerts in Vienna, you can get tickets on the internet. Also in Vienna, you must go to the big art museum and the natural history museum. In Prague, go for chamber music and visit the main museum. In Budapest, don't miss the big National Gallery on the Buda side, and the famous cathedral right near it.

You will barely scratch the surface in Budapest in 3 days. 3 is about right for Prague if you do not take any day trips. I enjoyed Vienna less but still a lot to see.
Budapest - Visit the Jewish Synagogue, the largest on the continent, also the Parliament also the largest on the cotenant. I also enjoyed the Hungarian National Museum and St Stevens Basilica where St Steven is buried and his mummified right hand is on display.
There is an interesting Postal Museum at the beginning of Andressy Utca near Deak Square and a museum dedicated to Dr Ignaz Semmelweise in his birth place at the bottom of Castle hill.

Prague Visit the Castle and enjoy the buildings and architecture of the city. Have a beer or wine at Stare Majestro (city square) in old town. Also visit the old Jewish Cemetery.

Vienna Visit the Schoenborn palace and exp the grounds behind it if they are open in November.
.
Try to attend an Opera. The one in Budapest is a little smaller than in Vienna and designed by the same architect and very inexpensive.

These are just starter suggestions
Have a great trip.
I'm not a great fan of Vienna, but it does have a wonderful art museum, the KunstHistorische -- and they have excellent coffee and cakes, too.

Budapest also has a good art museum -- I think it's called the Hungarian National Museum -- it's in Pest, near a part (not the one in the Buda Castle complex, which is entertaining but full of hilariously bad art).

Prague is a work of art in itself!
I am very impressed with browsing/booking options on the website www.a-prague.com - - they have the unusual feature that you can "chat" with an agent in real time using ICQ.

Hard to recommend a specific hotel without knowing a price range, and of course, I have been doing research - - but not been there yet.
