bucket list for 10 days around Pisa

The friends my wife and I will be staying with just a short bike ride from Pisa for 10 days starting Fri pm April 6 just asked if there was anything (besides the beach, CT, Lucca, and Florence which we have already planned on) that is on our bucket list. Besides bikes they have 2 cars so transportation is not an issue. Budget is though, so luxury hotels and expensive dinners are out.
Since there are not hours in the days to get our work done and do research, any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Mike

Are you asking about day trips from Pisa? If so, here are a few places in that area that I have visited and enjoyed-

Sarzana (train)
Volterra (car)
Cararra (car)
Lerici (car)
Tellaro (car)
Portovenere (car)
The mountains north of Lucca (car)

Montecatini-Terme is just a few miles from Lucca and is one of Europe's primo spa towns - a lush verdant parklike setting very very untypical of Italian towns - and no mopeds! Lots of ornate glass thermal establishments and the funkiest tasting water this side of Yellowstone!

And nestled above Lucca is Pinnochio's home town - no lie! Though I have not been there friends (Pinnochio fiends) did go and they said there were Pinnochio puppets all over, a museum, etc. Could walk from Lucca up there or bike if gears allow serious hill climbing.

what about driving down to Piombino & taking the ferry to Elba - you could just go for the day & take the bikes on ferry as that is less expensive.Taverna d'Emma is a nice restaurant in Pisa too, with reasonable prices.

I second Montecatini Terme. Don't miss the funicular up to Montecatini Alto.

Biking, Pisa to Lucca to Montopoli to Pisa is very easy, there is a little mountain in the middle between them but sticking to the river beds makes it easy.

There are also things called white roads. Basically dirt roads that have never seen tarmac. If you use google you can focus down and see them or indeed buy maps at TI. Used by sheep and local farmers they add miles of easy paths.
