Black Forest Questions

Hi Everybody,

I’ve learned a lot from reading past posts on the Black Forest, but now I have a few additional questions.

1. A number of posters have recommended Gengenbach as a place to stay. Does anybody have any recommendations for a specific hotel, apartment, or room in a private house there? We’d probably stay there about a week.

2. Would there be public transportation from Gengenbach to other nearby places such as Titisee, St. Blasien Monastery, Triberg, Colmar, etc., or would it be necessary to rent a car to get to those places?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Of course there is a public transportation from any town to any town, but it may need quite a roundabout route and take a while. On the other hand, with the Konus card you get, it will be free. Just check the schedules at www.bahn.de

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Sonne in Gengenbach a couple of years ago. We weren't in the main hotel but in an annex around the corner over a garage where we parked our car. The room was very nice. We paid under 60 Euro per night. The food at their restaurant was very good. It is located right on the main square and I would highly recommend it.

From reading Bavaria Ben's travelogues I got the impression that the hoteliers in the Black Forest offer free bus passes as part of the room rate.
