My husband just spent a long weekend in the black forest. He liked Baden Baden (the spas and hiking) and Tribourg.

We also spent time the first week of June in Germany. I would vote for Baden Baden. What a great city and in the middle of the black forest. Go to the Roman spa and have a treatment. FYI - the Roman spa is nude

We will be in Baden Baden from this coming Sunday to Wednesday - what hikes do you recommend, cmeyer54?

Hello. I just returned from spending 2 months in Germany. I was located in the black forest in Freiburg. You must visit Freiburg. It is a mid sized to small city. There isnt' much to sightsee other then the main church, the munster. However there are great stores, great restaurants and a many clubs and bars. It is a great place to visit. The people are nice and the city is overall pleasant. Defintely visit Freiburg it is located in the black forest in the south of Germany.

We also spent 4 days in Frieburg and I agree with everything said. If you go to the center square around the church there are dozen of open air shops that setup each day. It costs like 2E to climb to the top of the chuch towers.

re: Janebell - hiking - he took a really nice hike up to a large waterfall. I think it is the largest in Germany. Lots of stops along the way, etc. You can also take a little bus tour of Baden Baden and buy a spa pass for several hours (don't have to do the nude thing) - also detoured into Strasbourg and took a tour; wine road looked very inviting as well.
