Best wine in Tuscany??

We are going to Italy in May, plan to spend 2 nights in Florence, and 1 night in Tuscany (we are thinking Chianti Radda). We are looking forward to exploring Tuscany and would love to do some wine tasting. Any recommendations?

Is it necessary to make reservations in advance for wine tastings in Tuscany in May? Or can we go the day of? Thank you!

Super Tuscans.

Some examples are Sassicaia, Tignanello, Orneilaia (sp?), Guado al Tasso (from Antinori).

The Brunellos are wonderful, but very expensive. If you're staying in Chianti, the Chianti Classico Reserve'99 is great.

I love the Nobile di Montepulciano.

Since you have limited time in Chianti I would recommend the Le Cantine De Greve (in the town of Greve). It's a wine store (enoteca) where you are able to taste about 100 wines from all over the Tuscan region, including the Brunellos & Chianti's that posters have mentioned. You can visit the web site, http://www.lecantine.it/
If you aim is to taste as much as possible in your short time period this would be a place to accomplish that. If you want to taste some and be surronded by the beauty of Tuscany then you would be better suited to visit Radda or Castellina or some other small Tuscan towns (Montalcino). All of the towns have enotecas, where you will be able to taste the wines. You wouldn't have the vast selection that you would at Le Cantine but you would have the beauty that surronds you in the little towns and the hillsides that the town look down on.

Are you looking to taste wines or visit wineries?

With such a limited time in Tuscany, you will taste a wider range of wines by visiting a local enoteca or wine shop.

Last year we took a private tour with organized visits to wineries. It was very educational and as we had very little time in Tuscany, we got the most out of our day. Check out the company we hired: www.tuscan-wine-tours.com
...and have a fantastic wining trip!

Unless you're a complete wine snob (no offense), it really doesn't matter. The worst wine in Italy is terrific. Enjoy the trip and bring back what you tasted and liked.
