Tuscany one-day wine tour
Hey everyone,
My girlfriend and I will be staying in Florence for a few days this month (first trip to Italy) and are planning a private full-day wine tour in Tuscany. I can customize the tour, so any advice would be appreciated. We want to visit a few wineries, drink excellent wines, and see the countryside. I wanted to visit at least two towns and after doing some reading, Montalcino sounds like a good start. Does anyone have any other suggestions or recommendations on how to plan this without it being too hectic. Also would be interested in hearing about any specific places in this area that would be a must on this trip. Keep in mind that we need to head back to Florence at the end of the day. Thanks. Peter

I do love Montalcino, but it is 2 hours from Florence--a bit far for a day trip. I would stay closer to home and see Sam Gim. in the AM and then do the Chianti route from Castellini to Greve with a diversion to Volpaia. Your driver will know places to stop.

I would definitely do Montalcino if I were you. Make sure you get taken to some top wineries - possibly pick the ones that you would like to see beforehand. Here's also a good web-site on wines in Tuscany:
