Berthillon in Paris

Unfortunately, the day we are spending the majority of our time in the immediate neighborhood of Berthillon shop is a day they are closed. Are there vendors that sell the ice cream around Notre Dame or other sites? I seem to remember this from my time there before, but maybe that is just wishful thinking. Merci!

It is ubiquitous in cafes all over Paris, so you won't have any trouble finding it. There are debates about whether it is really any better at the company store. I have a vague memory that there might be two company locations on the Ile St Louis, maybe a few blocks from each other?

That's true, a lot of cafes serve it. You just have to read the menu carefully and make sure it is Berthillon and not "Berthillon style" or something. I think they do have two outlets on the island, but they probably have the same hours.

Isn't Amorino's close by?

Yes,it is.

When you come from Notre Dame side, on the main street of Ile Saint-Louis, there is a small stand on the left (I think this one is Bertillon's direct outlet) and another not far on your right. This right one may be the Bertillon's original shop, that takes holidays for 1 month or 2 in summer (!). A few times I passed by there in July and August, it was always closed. I never saw the left one closed but never paid attention about closing day. There is another place that sells Bertillon (this one may not be Bertillon's own), on the street that leads to le Pont Marie bridge, on your left.

Kappa is correct. I've bought Berthillon cones from both locations on Ile St Louis, but try Amorino too. I liked it as well as B.'s. I think it's on the right side of the main street.

Hi H,

For gelato as good as any in Italy, and better than B's ice cream see http://www.amorino.fr/

Across the street from the shop at 47 rue Saint Louis en L’Ile is an artisinal foie gras de canard vendor - out of this world.

It is, at a corner.

I am as impressed by Berthillon (one visit in 30 years) as I am by the Paul's fast food chain (never been there). If the tourists like it, fine.

I thought Amorino better than Berthillon. As others have said they are close to Notre Dame on the Ile St. Louis.
