Berlin Hotels - Potsdamer Platz,
Hi!
We are planning a trip to Berlin from 18-27 June.... and need some hotel advice. We need to stay in the Potsdammer Platz general vicinity. We had hoped to stay at the Marriott, but it is booked. Can anyone recommend any other quality/good value hotels in that same genrral area that may be worth checking out?
Also --- day trips from Berlin? Any suggestions?
Thanks much!!!

I haven't stayed here, but it looks like a very good value and it's a new hotel. I'm keeping it in mind for a possible future trip:

The Moevenpick is one stop on the S-Bahn or about an 8 minute walk away. Stayed there last year on a $65 priceline bid, and it was excellent - very modern, great room and an amazing breakfast.

Day trips: Potsdam, Sachsenhausen, Dresden.... there is lots to see/do in Berlin itself.

I keep raving about the Grand Hyatt. Fantastic facilities such as a rooftop spa and pool with views over Western Berlin, great rooms with extremely well laid out bathrooms and unpretetious service.
Another alternative might be the Madison Suites Hotel right next door, which usually gets very good reviews, particularly here on Fodor's.
I haven't stayed at the Moevenpick and it is a couple of minutes away, but that might bea pretty good alternative, esp. pricewise.

Another vote for the Madison Suites ... it was like having your own nice apartment right in the centre (of the Mitte district). It's about a 10 minute walk to Potsdamer Platz but it's also just a block away from the subway and bus connections. Whe I was there last year Potsdamer Platz seemd rather cut off from the rest of the city.

There are two Madison Suites Hotels. One is on Friedrichstr., right in the center of Mitte and this appears to be the one scotcan is mentioning.
The other Madison Suites is right on Potsdamer Platz.

Joe! Wait! We stayed at that Marriott in October for 55USD/night for a double on a Priceline bid. See if biddingfortravel.com is up and running--they've had a major meltdown in the past few days. If so scroll down to Europe Hotels, click Germany and click Berlin. You'll find out what hotels you may get by bidding in the same general area. You can also find recent successful bids. Good luck!
