Ignoring the orignial question about 'beauty', does anyone else think that French women are generally tiny? That is, SHORT. I spend a lot of time in France and feel that I am in the land of Munchkins, a feeling that dissipates as soon as I cross into Germany!"
Your observation is accuarate. For their wars, the French military receuites used to go town to town recruiting only the biggest guys. They were the ones killed in the wars while the little guys stsyed at home and, ah, procreated.
Anyway, that's the explanation I've heard for why the French tend to be small.

French people are not any shorter than the average European. French women are the same height as American women (just slightly over 5'4" tall). It's possible that the generally slighter build of an average French woman might create the impression that she is also petite.
The same is true for French men. Unfortunately, the delicacy of physique that works in favor of French women tends to work against French men, as a delicate build is often associated with femininity.
