Thank you again for all of this information. I am on overload.
There are so many types of train tickets available and some options are included in one place but not the other. Then, you have issues re: comfortable seat or not comfortable seat. For a short ride, I wouldn't mind a wooden seat.
For a long ride, yes, I would mind a wooden seat. But, if the price were 70 E versus 27, I would bring a cushion.
Cowboy, your instructions are much appreciated and I will take them with me to Germany.
Ingo, apparently the the Sachsen-Ticket and the Berlin-Brandenburg-Ticket are both good from Dresden to Berlin. The ride is 3 1/2 hours versus 2, and there is that train change BUT: #1. am I assuming correctly that the point to point ticket costs two people 70 Euros and therefore, the savings would warrant the extra travel time. Plus, there is the free travel on the busses and S-bahn in Berlin which is also worth something.
#2. Is that only a one time deal, using free transportation from the train to the hotel, or can I use the ticket for the rest of the day in Berlin with my husband?
#3. Ingo, do I have my choice of ticket, the Sachsen-Ticket OR the Berlin-Brandenburg-Ticket from Dresden to Berlin? You mentioned both.
#4. Munich to Salzburg and Salzburg to Nurenberg, BAYERN TICKET.
Is there free transportation in Nurenberg with this ticket?
#5. Nurenberg to Dresden, Weekend ticket since we are traveling on a Saturday. No free public transportation in Dresden using my train ticket.
#6. Dresden to Berlin, still an open question.

Question 3 - clear answer: Each of those Länder tickets covers the area of the resp. Land (federal state). The Sachsen ticket covers the first part of the train trip from Dresden to the Sachsen/Brandenburg border, the Berlin-Brandenburg ticket is good for the second part from said border through Brandenburg and Berlin. You need BOTH tickets to cover the whole trip from Dresden to Berlin.
