Barcelona Restaurants

Any suggestions for GREAT casual barcelona restaurants? Want to avoid the highly touristy area, and not interested in extremely fancy. Catalonian or Mediterranean cuisine. Thanks!

It's a bit more French oriented, but it's a beautiful restaurant, Brasserie Flo. I've been there many times and recommended it to fellow workers staying in Barcelona. They loved it and plan to go back next year.

Rekons in Eixample is an amazing little restaurant. It is technically an Argentinian cafe, but we found much of the fare to be quite Spanish as well.

A "bit" more French oriented? It's a French brasserie chain (Groupe Flo).

I am not sure what you mean by the highly touristy area, I had several Spanish small bistros/restaurants I liked in the Eixemple area on or near Passeig de Gracia or plaza de Catalunya, is that too touristy an area for you? Lots of tourists around them. One was Tenorio and the other La Tramoia.

We loved Cafe Academia in the Barri Gottic area. It is small with stone walls, casual atmosphere and mostly local diners. The food was very good and my favorite item was the salad which was divided into four different salads on one plate. It is definitely on our list for our visit to Barcelona in June. A reservation is needed but we arrived at 8:30 when it opens and snagged a table for two.

Christina,

Agreed, it's a French chain, with local food emphasis.

It's casual, which is one of the criteria. Anything near La Rambla is relatively touristy, mixed in with local places serving great food.

The restaurant is pretty. It's also a stalwart, but has managed to stay fresh for the past 20 years.

No need to start multiple threads on the same topic. I answered your first post with this info from last winter; none of the restaurants are "fancy:"
