Barcelona apartment rental

Two couples (4 adults) will be in Barcelona Sept. 27- Oct.4. I would appreciate suggestions for reliable local rental agencies and/or specific apartments. We use VRBO all the time, but would like recommendations for local agencies. We need a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment with good kitchen in a quiet area. Our top neighborhood preferences are El Born and Gracia. We've stayed in Gracia twice and like it, but are thinking to maybe try trendy El Born.

I rented from them last time and was happy with the flat. It was near Placa Catalunya, so not where you want to be but they do have apartments in the Gotic and Born:

I have some info in the report I wrote; I will top it if I find it.

I also rented from Destination BCN last year and had no problems. The agency was in the building of our apt, but it was a 1 bedroom.

It's always reassuring to hear from folks who have actually dealt with these agencies. I have been on both sites and both offer possibilities for us. Thanks so much.

I am renting a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment in Gracia for the beginning of June through aribnb. If you still haven't found anything by then let me know and I'd be happy to give you a first hand account of the apartment. I usually perfer VRBO over airbnb but found more options this time on airbnb.

We rented successfully from Habitat twice. Very professional, nice apartments, well located. Be very careful of VRBO/HomeAway based on the fake listings that they tolerate (there is a current thread here). We normally use airbnb and have rented maybe 60 apartments all over Europe with a focus on Italy; but we have found less success with them in Barcelona.

I have stayed in BCN Gotic apartments twice and would not hesitate to stay again. Love the area(pedestrian), plenty of shops and places to eat, market nearby, about a 20 min walk to the beach, 15 min walk to Las Ramblas( if you want to experience strolling here), plus many of the other sites we visited we walked to as well.

I have generally had positive experiences with AirBNB, however I recently had a concerning situation. I booked several apartments in BCN that all had “free cancellation” within a certain time period. I was then able to compare them at my leisure, and within a few days canceled the ones I had decided against.

Later that month I noticed a charge on my credit card for a BCN apartment. When I scrutinized it I realized it was a charge of 30% of the total cost of one of the apartments I had subsequently canceled. Although this was in their terms, they had never refunded me after I canceled it (well within the time period). I emailed and they quickly said they would refund. They did not. I emailed again a few weeks later. They once again said they would refund, but I also reported it to AirBNB, who effectively took no action. I did eventually get my money back, but my card was charged in November, and not refunded until February! 😳 It really made me wonder if I had not noticed/pursued it if they would have just kept my money, and also how many people this might have happened to.

VRBO fakes?

Please provide more information about "Be very careful of VRBO/HomeAway based on the fake listings..." I could not find a thread for it.
I've contacted the agencies that several of you have suggested. Thanks. Still not ready for ABnB.

In my experience all the rental agencies like VRBO, AirBnB are all the same. Whenever one books an apt through any of them you must be careful to check the listing out carefully. I've been renting places for 20 years or so in USA & Europe and have been pleased with all my apts and experiences with VRBO, Homeaway, AirBnb and a couple others.
