The only bank agency (HSBC) at CDG is at terminal 2F. Every other ATM is operated by HSBC which has the monopoly at the airport.
I would not worry about the ATM's. They will only swallow your card if it is blacklisted of if you get the PIN wrong three times in a row.

You need a four digit password for them to work in Europe. Be sure and call your bank and credit card companies and tell them when and were you are going or they won't work.
Check with ur atm bank. They might have an alliance with a French bank and you won't be charged for withdrawals. I use Bank of America and I can us BNP Paibras free. If your bank does have a deal, you can check the french banks website and find branches with atms

Thanks all. My CU does not charge for "foreign" atm withdrawals and rebates any charges levied by their banks. I just want to be sure I don't lose the card and would like to find an atm on the wall of a bank just in case the machine jams. Perhaps I should wait until I get into the city.

If you are really worried about the wicked machine gobbling your card, simply open another account with your bank for a second ATM card. I have two savings accounts anyway, so I always have two. My wife has her own accounts, so we can always fall back on hers.

Kind of like fire hydrants. You don't see them at first, but once you spot one, your eyes are opened and you see them everywhere. I am always amazed at how there is an ATM on every other street corner. If one has a line, I walk on a block or two and there is another!

I live in a quite ordinary neighborhood, and at my intersection there are 7 BNP Paribas machines, 4 Banque Postale, 4 Banque Populaire, 2 LCL (increasing to 7 soon) and 5 Caisse d'Epargne. The bank agencies are being automated with a big "machine zone" and just the briefest excuse for a counter with humans.

In most cases the bank agencies have no access to their machines, even those on their wall. They are operated by another company.

I've been using the ATMs at CDG for years and have never had the card jam or any other problem. One time of many, the ATM just outside the arrivals hall was not working and I went to another and got my euros.
If you re really worried about it bring a backup card.

I didn't realize a bank couldn't open their own ATM, I do prefer to use one near a bank if I can, but don't lots of times.
I do find CIC ATMs temperamental in Paris, however, but don't have a problem with other brands, just that one. They don't take your card, just won't give me money a lot of the time. I don't know why.

I highly recommend having an alternate ATM from a different bank, just in case your bank "forgets" you're in France and cuts you off thinking it's a fraud (it happened to me even after sending two notices that I would be in France on certain dates). Also you can't use an ATM for a savings account, the ATMs in Paris only give you the option of a checking account (at least that was my experience).
