bank atm

Since many ATM's are reportedly temperamental, I've been advised to use one that's in or next to a bank. Does anyone know the location of such an ATM at CDG airport Paris please?

Cholmondley_Warner May 15th, 2010 11:42 AM

There's pots of them and they're all fine.

kerouac May 15th, 2010 11:44 AM

The only bank agency (HSBC) at CDG is at terminal 2F. Every other ATM is operated by HSBC which has the monopoly at the airport.

I would not worry about the ATM's. They will only swallow your card if it is blacklisted of if you get the PIN wrong three times in a row.

When out on the streets of Paris you may want to look for machines on the wall of a bank bldg. But ATMs are no more temperamental in France than they are anywhere else.

You need a four digit password for them to work in Europe. Be sure and call your bank and credit card companies and tell them when and were you are going or they won't work.

Check with ur atm bank. They might have an alliance with a French bank and you won't be charged for withdrawals. I use Bank of America and I can us BNP Paibras free. If your bank does have a deal, you can check the french banks website and find branches with atms

Thanks all. My CU does not charge for "foreign" atm withdrawals and rebates any charges levied by their banks. I just want to be sure I don't lose the card and would like to find an atm on the wall of a bank just in case the machine jams. Perhaps I should wait until I get into the city.

If you are really worried about the wicked machine gobbling your card, simply open another account with your bank for a second ATM card. I have two savings accounts anyway, so I always have two. My wife has her own accounts, so we can always fall back on hers.

Kind of like fire hydrants. You don't see them at first, but once you spot one, your eyes are opened and you see them everywhere. I am always amazed at how there is an ATM on every other street corner. If one has a line, I walk on a block or two and there is another!

I live in a quite ordinary neighborhood, and at my intersection there are 7 BNP Paribas machines, 4 Banque Postale, 4 Banque Populaire, 2 LCL (increasing to 7 soon) and 5 Caisse d'Epargne. The bank agencies are being automated with a big "machine zone" and just the briefest excuse for a counter with humans.

TY Cynthia and Kerouac.......I feel better already.

In most cases the bank agencies have no access to their machines, even those on their wall. They are operated by another company.

I've been using the ATMs at CDG for years and have never had the card jam or any other problem. One time of many, the ATM just outside the arrivals hall was not working and I went to another and got my euros.

If you re really worried about it bring a backup card.

BigRuss May 17th, 2010 07:17 AM

CDG sucks, but the ATMs worked for me.

You're overthinking the process . . .

Christina May 17th, 2010 09:19 AM

I didn't realize a bank couldn't open their own ATM, I do prefer to use one near a bank if I can, but don't lots of times.

I do find CIC ATMs temperamental in Paris, however, but don't have a problem with other brands, just that one. They don't take your card, just won't give me money a lot of the time. I don't know why.

I really wish more banks on their atm's would have swipe terminals or in and out terminals where the card does not go inside the machine.....no change of having the card eaten.

I highly recommend having an alternate ATM from a different bank, just in case your bank "forgets" you're in France and cuts you off thinking it's a fraud (it happened to me even after sending two notices that I would be in France on certain dates). Also you can't use an ATM for a savings account, the ATMs in Paris only give you the option of a checking account (at least that was my experience).
