Avoid Locanda Catullo in Verona
Avoid the budget hotel Locanda Catullo in Verona if you want to save yourself much time, effort and heartache.
We called there 2 weeks in advance to make reservations and they made them with a credit card and told us we must arrive at Locanda Catullo by 2 PM to check in.
We rushed to get there on time and did get there by 1:30 by practically running from the bus that we took from the train station. Once we climbed the 3 flights of stairs to get to the front desk the
owner said he did get the reservations, but he was not going to honor them.
He said he decided not to accept us as we wanted to stay only one night (which
was what we booked). The owner confirmed that he did take the reservation for a one night stay but "now I have decided against it". He said he
didn't need honor our reservations because he is listed in "Let's Go Europe" and gets enough
customers that we didn't matter. That was just how he stated it. He told us
to go away and wouldn't even let us use the phone to call another hotel to see about rooms even though
he admitted he had taken a reservation for us weeks earlier. We went a few
blocks to a public phone and phoned other hotels until we found one with a vacancy. By the time
we walked there most of the day was shot, so we never saw more than a tiny bit
of Verona.

If I were going to Verona soon, I would make it a point to go visit Locanda Catullo, tell the owner that I had considered making a reservation for a weeklong stay, but decided against it when I heard what he did to Moriah. That way, the owner would know that even though he's in LET'S GO, the word is STILL getting out about him. Maybe some of you who are going might want to do this.... ;-)

Just stayed there in early June 2004. Had a delightful experience with a very large, clean room. We chose a room without bath for the rate and the bath was just a few steps away and was spotless. I certainly would go back.
