restaurants in Verona

Looking for restaurant recommendations in Verona. Especially interested in places that aren't the normal tourist destinations right by the Arena.

Hi Susan,
I was doing some research on Verona and came across this blog which might be helpful.

Via Sottoriva is an historic arcade worth seeking out in the city, populated by a number of fairly modest eateries that seem to be the preserve of the locals rather than the tourist hordes.

There are two that I liked a lot, but my trip was years ago; looks as if they are both going strong.

Taverna di Via Stella

Al Pompiere

You need to book at both places.

We enjoyed:

Ristorante Greppia
Antica Bottega del Vini (which happens to be on the list Irice linked)
Ristorante Boccondivino

I don’t know what you’re looking for so check them out before you commit!

IMO some of those "restaurants right by the arena" are uneven quality-wise at best so I agree you definitely need to eat elsewhere. I'm not sure I agree with everything said about the Piazza dell Erbe in terms of either quality or crowds, much less prices, but you won't know until you actually go there.
