Well I've been in Venice and Rome in October, and I can say, it's hard to predict, but generally, you'd be expecting perfect sunny weather in the 60's-70's.
Haven't stayed in either of those hotels, but I would think them both good choices. Lancelot has balconies that look onto the Colisseum, plus they serve dinner in their elegant dining room, which is a way of getting to know travelers and socializing, so I think that's a big draw, but it's not cheap.
Villa Igea is ideally located in Campo San Zaccaria. There's a lot to see in this area, and it's very close to San Marco. The vaporetto stop San Zaccaria is close as well, so it is convenient to the sites and areas in Venice you want to visit.

Hello ssvw, past weather is no indication of future weather. I would take a trench coat or some kind of a rain coat to Italy if I was going to be there in October. And I would make sure the coat could be worn over a heavy sweater in case it gets cold (which can happen in the Region of Venteto). The one time I didn't I was miserable. I had to buy cold weather clothes and then consequently pack up and ship warmer weather clothes home. So think about taking clothes that you can layer.
