AutoEurope is Portland,Maine based company and is known to be a very good company to work for.I always go throuh them for European Car rentals..Last time to Ireland I got great rate and a upgrade. They accepted my credit card insurance coverage and explained the extra charges, road tax and full tank of gas.So I was told to come back on fumes by the reservationist.Pick up was a breeze at Shannon and drop off was quick, and a short shuttel to the terminal.

>>Since they quote as GBP instead of USD, does it matter when I pickup car or use my credit card or do they know the difference.<<
I don't understand your question.
If it's "does it matter WHERE you pick up the car" - it may, if you pick it up at an airport location. There is sometimes an airport surcharge tacked on by the airport - not the rental compay or broker (like AutoEurope).
regarding the credit card, if you pay the eniire amount in Dollars at AutoEurope when you reserve your car, you will avoid the 1-3% currency conversion fee that will be slapped on to part of the rental if you return the car & pay any balance in Euros.
I've probably rented more than 30 cars from AutoEurope - 6 this year & last.

Thanks Shellio for your help. So my credit card will be charged in GBP and then converted to USD.
Also, does anyone know which car rental office Siena is the easiest to rent and return cars to. They list 2 sites on AutoEurope, one downtown and another one I don't where it is other then the address.

>>Since the car rental company charges in Euros for rental in France, and autoeurope is billing me in GBP and I am paying in USD, I assume I'm losing on the exchange somewhat,<<
I don't know what this AutoEurope.uk is. Did you call the regular AutoEurope in the US and get a quote from them??? That way, you can pay everything in USD and avoid the currency conversion charge.

autoeurope.co.uk is an online auto parts store, apparently. I don't think they rented from them.
I think they are saying they viewed prices on Autoeurope's UK web site (which is http://www.auto-europe.co.uk)
and found rental rates cheaper on that site than on the US site for the same car and same location in EUrope. I think I've heard that can be true.
So, they booked on the UK site, and since that is a branch or affiliate office, their card will be charged in GBP. So, they will pay a conversion fee to USD on the credit card statement. If you have a card that only charges one pct, I think you would save a lot if the price difference was $50 over 3 days. I imagine the price can't be more than about $100-150, is it (so, one pct fee is only $1-$2).
I think Kemwell and Autoeurope are owned by the same people.

StuDudley: yes, I checked with AutoEurope in the US and the price they offered is what I used to compare against the AutoEurope UK price. The difference was approximately $50 US. So as Christina says, even with a conversion fee, the difference in cost is substantial. I owe Ira thanks for this tip.
If you rent cars several times a year, you might want to check with the UK site as well as the US one. I don't know if it is typically less expensive than the US site, but it's certainly worth checking out.

www.autoeurope.com has sister sites at http://www.auto-europe.co.uk/ and www.autoeurope.fr.
It's the same company. You can rent your car over the phone in dollars, pounds or euro.
For our September trip I had reserved a car using the US site. Subsequently, I found a lower rate at the UK site.
They cancelled my US reservation and gave me the UK price (in GBP).
A few days later, the price at the UK site went down, I rebooked.
I now have the same car, with zero deductible insurance, no airport charges, a free extra driver and a 2% conversion fee for about $100 less than the US cost without the above goodies.
