Austrian air and Hotel Favorita
Has anyone had any experience flying with Austrian Air? They seem to have some good deals from JFK. Is anyone familiar with the Hotel Favorita in Vienna? What kind of weather is typical(if there is any such thing in Vienna the end of May/beginning of June? Thanks for the help.

Dear emiller444,
I flew on Austrian Air in 2002 from JFK to Vienna and vice versa. I was very favorably impressed with the service and professionalism that this airline demonstrated. The food was good, not great, mind you, but there were some nice touches - hot rolls with butter served as a snack mid-flight, and for breakfast, a cheese sandwich and a Lindt chocolate bar! How can I find fault with an airline that thinks of chocolate as breakfast food?
I found the airport at Vienna to be a little chaotic, and the check-in crew at the Austrian Air counter were a bit inconsistent with the size of bag they were allowing on board. But that was just my experience, it might not be yours.
I took my trip in mid-May and it was warm (sometimes very warm) and thunderstormy. It cooled off and rained for a few days at the end.
Have a lovely trip - I envy you!

I also enjoy flying Austrian Air. I have never had a problem on the plane or at the terminal. Austrian is one of the better airlines. Right now they have just announced a good deal starting at $259 round trip, NY to Vienna, but for a limited time. For a few bucks more, the deal will extend through March 15 departures, March 30 returns. Fares from Dulles are only slightly higher. I'm very tempted to go myself, but I don't particularly like the weather in Austria at that time of year. Temperatures will be around 40-45F at the high end and around freezing for the lows. I think if I were to go, I'd probably choose another featured destination - Klagenfurt - just because it's farther south. It's also a lovely city. But if the cool weather doesn't bother you, it's one heck of a deal.

I've flown Austrian Airlines several times (coach) over the last few years out of both JFK and Dulles to Vienna. I have no complaints about the service. The attendants were very efficient, informative and courteous. The food was fine. I've even sent an e-mail or two telling them just that. And I never let the weather dictate when I'm going to Austria. Anytime is good for me!

I agree, Austrian Airlines is a very civilized way to go. The service seems professional and the jets are clean.
I went to Vienna in the early Summer last year and hit the first of their unexpected summer heat waves. A lot of places in VIE aren't air conditioned so shops and hotel room can be hot. Check if your hotel has air conditioning.
I stayed at the Kaiserin elizabeth Hotel which i thought had the most convenient location in the city. It was located right in the center of the old town and within walking distance to everything.
The Kaiserin Elizabeth is also a very clean and modern hotel with sparkling bathrooms, clean sheets and furnishings that appear new. They take great pride in their hotel.
The front desk staff is very friendly and willing to help with anything. They also have a FAB breakfast buffet which is included in your room rate.
Check out their websight.

Be sure to specifically ask for a room with A/C along with a confirmation! Not all rooms have it!
