August flights to Venice

My daughter will leave for Italy in August (returning in December). The tickets are very high now. Does anyone know whether the price gets higher or lower as we approach summer? Thanks

Expect to pay alot as she will be going over the 90 day deal for a return ticket. I am assuming that she is studying abroad? I have had this with both of my kids and the airfares usually are between $800 to $1200 because of the time. I would not wait really long in purchasing the return as the flights really fill up in December because it seems that all of the students return at the same time right before Christmas.Venice in the summer? The tickets will go up. Check out Delta's nonstops to Venice out of JFK or Atlanta.

She is leaving from North Carolina. Thanks dutyfree, I will check Delta out of Atlanta. I have tried to get her a frequent flyer ticket to Venice but have had no luck with the return portion. I didn't realize about the Dec. traffic. I can get her reasonable roundtrip fare to Milan. She would have time for the train trip. I suppose that would mean a night at a hotel near the airport. Does anyone know of a reason not to do this. She is young, but she is used to Amtrak here. Any information would be greatly appreciated. We are ready to move on this. Thanks to you all.

Flights to Milan are generally less expensive than to Venice, but you would have to add in the extra cost of a night in a Milan hotel (unless she arrives early in the day) and the train over to Venice. Most international flights arrive at Malpensa airport; there is a bus from there to the Milano Centrale train station where she would catch the train to Venice. The area around the train station is not a good one if she needs to stay overnight---not particularly dangerous, but sleazy-looking. You can check the train schedules on the Trenitalia website.

Can you possible adjust the December return date and still get her the miles ticket in to Venice?

Thanks so much Enzian. Unfortunately, she can't leave before the 1st of December. She would get to Malpensa airport in time to take the bus to Milano Centrale and the train to Venice. I thought for the return that she could do the reverse and be at a Malpensa hotel at about dark for a return plane to the US the next morning. She wouldn't be at the Centrale station late at night. On this site, I read about the Cervo motel at the airport. They have single rooms and a shuttle. I have priced the room and the two train tickets and it will still be much cheaper than going to Venice. Perhaps she could have an extra day in Milan if anyone knows a good place for a young girl alone to stay there. Does anyone know if the Cervo would be fine for her at Malpensa. Thanks again!

I was in Milan in November in a hotel just by the side of Milano Centrale..the Starhotel Anderson. Wonderful hotel and very very kind staff who even offered to help me with the suitcases when I was going to the station. I know it's not a cheap hotel but I found an offer 100 euros/night.
It's not a bad zone at all, I felt good there
