Travel from milan to Venice

I am looking for the best way to get from Milan (malpensa)airport to Venice via public transportation. After a stay in Venice I want to rent a car and travel south. Does anyone have thoughts on the best place to rent a car on the way out of Venice?

Other than flying, take Malpensa Shuttle airport bus to Milan Centrale. Train to Venice.

About the rentals after Venice: Look on the websites of all the major brokers (kemwel, sixt, gemut, autoeurope, europcar, and on and on, plus the US-multinationals) and see what Venice locations they have and what their prices are - shop around!

They may bring up Marco Polo airport or even Treviso airport locations - you need to know your geography.

Get a map and pinpoint the exact location with the help of www.mappy.com or www.viamichelin.com.

Piazzale Roma is the closest to the "real" Venice by the canals that I know of where you should find rentals. But if a location in Mestre, near the Venice-Mestre train station (that's the Venice of the container port and industrial area up the causeway on the mainland) has a much better price, you could easily take the ten-minute local train from Venice-Santa Lucia up to Venice Mestre.

Hi

My wife and I went to Milan and Venice a couple of years back and we used the train between the cities. I have posted a bit of information about our experience in a trip report on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/italy_milan.htm Maybe you can find some useful information there

Regards
