I've been saying for a LONG time on this forum that Naples gets a bad rap by many people. I hope this can put some of those bad raps to bed.

Good article - Am thinking of tacking Rome and Naples on to a trip to the UK next spring.

(Interesting that you've been a member for 9 years and this is your first post ever?? )

I'm a great fan of Naples, and this article brought back some delightful memories -- thanks so much!

It reminded me of stepping off the extremely crowded Via Tribunali into the Pio Monte della Misericordia, which I thought must be closed since I was the ONLY person there, and being able to take as much time as I wanted staring at Caravaggio's The Seven Works of Mercy, and being free to see it unobstructed from anywhere in that room. Wow!

Whether savoring the tastes or the views, the crowds or the unexpectedly empty spaces (including the Santa Chiara), or the contrasts of modern fashion and ancient streets, I found Naples to be dynamic and energetic and vibrant and fascinating. I realize that it isn't and will never be to everyone's liking, but Oh! what a wonderful place!

This is not my first post janisj, I rarely have any postings though, maybe once in 6 months. My previous 'name' was igpjazz. I love reading fodor's forum, has helped me a lot with my trip planning.

I am glad you guys loved the article. Found it yesterday and thought it is worth sharing.

Since I go to Naples very frequently, I have run into situations that happen only in Naples, and no place else in the world. That's the real beauty of Napoli.

Superb article. It almost restores my faith in the Times' travel section. I do hope it doesn't send hordes of visitors there though. I like Naples the way it is!

Thanks for posting.

Nice article. I loved naples! The lack of hordes of tourists contributes to its charm. That and reasonable prices and fabulous food make it one of my favorite cities in Italy.
