Are we becoming better "teachers" on the board?

You know, it doesn't seem like there are nearly as many crazy threads as there used to be. Things like "How long will it take me to get from Europe to Italy", "Where is a good, cheap place to stay", "Should I bring pepper spray"

Is this because we have become such wonderful teachers that the world is now a more knowledgeable place or is it because there is a Preview feature on the board.

I kind of miss the old crazy stuff.

I think we still get crazy arguements " you are a bigger racist than me ya ya etc" and some of us have learnt not to punch newbies for asking dumb questions. I think this has driven a few of us away and I don't see the same density of traffic as we used to but it is the quiet season after a credit crunch.

Maybe we have aged and the younger hipper crowd have moved onto more exciting website and that includes many of the old crowd.

Maybe a better question ought to be "where have all the dumb questions gone?"

bb says,

>Maybe a better question ought to be "where have all the dumb questions gone?"<

Many of the folks who used to come here to ask for advice on going to Europe are currently staying home and renting DVDs. This is expected to continue for several more years.

Maybe we have just matured and learned to tolerate those things that used to annoy us.

I really don't miss the crazy stuff. Even if I see a question asked a thousand times, I try to realize that some people just don't have the hang of the search.

The thing that drives me crazy is when someone asks a question getting reasonable answers and never returns to read them. Or maybe they do but just do not answer.

Feedback is important for teachers. And sometimes the people who have taken the time and effort to answer are left in limbo. That doesn't really encourage people to return.

Nobody seems up for it anymore - maybe the recession, maybe the weather, maybe the e numbers whatever.

Juicy threads that would have scrapped for 250 posts are just dead after 20.

Maybe the yanks have just given up, accepted their beer is like water and that they should wear Capris in the Artic circle -

this is becoming like a nursing home.

I keep hoping some of those 'multi-country/sites in minimum days' people would kindly write a trip report. Need to know if we were off the mark or not....and did the others who wanted to "do" somewhere..."did".

Sadly, no more tip the pilot threads.

Maybe more people on here have a life elsewhere for socializing and use this as a place to gather and impart info about travel.

Maybe people are starting out their trip by actually buying guide books and answering their own questions instead of starting their research on travel boards. It would seem to me that "boards" are for refining one's trip.

Maybe they laid off the crazies first.

It is also off-season for travel planning. Wait until late winter/early spring, I can assure you there will be postings that will not disappoint you.

The Lounge is anything but a place to sit back.
