Are private transfers necessary?
I am planning my honeymoon in Greece for the middle of May. Part of the time we will be staying in Santorini. Our hotel in Oia (Perivolas) does not include a private transfer so our travel agent is encouraging us to get a transfer through a tour company. She says the cost will be $140 for the two of us for the two transfers (i.e., to and from the hotel). This seems really expensive given that the island is so small. Couldn't we just find a taxi at the port and then at our hotel when we're leaving? Are private transfers necessary?

Hi, and welcome to the Europe forum - - I know that you think you posted this to the "Greece forum", and in a virtual sense, you did.
But the majority of participants on this message board simply look at the entire Europe forum, without clicking on a specific country - - and thus... what's missing in the message header of your post is the fact that you are seeking an answer to the question: "Are private transfers necessary for our arrival in Greece (or specifically Santorini)?"
You'll help everyone here, and especially yourselves if you re-post this question, and include a reference to your destinations.
Best wishes,
Rex

I just booked Perivolas for my honeymoon in september...We booked directly with the hotel and have been told the room price included all taxes, transfers and breakfast...are you dealing directly with the hotel? or is it the travel agency that told you that transfers aren't included? We have been communicating with Majda from Perivolas reservations, who has been very helpful...maybe ask her(i think that's a girls name?) directly: email: [email protected]

That's an absurd price. You can catch a taxi from the airport for 20 euro. It will drop you off in front of the Perivolas but you'll have to walk a bit since it's down the side of the cliff off the road. If I remember correctly there is a driveway going toward the cliff, but if not I suggest that you carry the luggage away from the road and that one of you stay with it while the other go down to the reception desk. They will send someone up to fetch your bags. Just don't forget your spouse!!
There are a limited number of taxis, so when you get off the plane, one of you wait for your bags while the other goes outside to enlist the taxi.
