Tom - that was my FAVORITE apartment I have stayed in EVER!!!! (You know it is a two bedroom right?)
It is SO comfortable, the bed...the shower is AMAZING!! It was literally more than I expected. The location was perfect for us, because you could walk to everything - but is quiet. The only noise we ever heard was at 8:00 am or so a couple of children we in the stairwell. We walked to rent bikes in El Retiro park, you are basically across the street from the Prado - we did take cabs home a few times when we went to mercado san miguel.
There is a washer/dryer (same unit really fancy ;-) ), lovely small kitchen that we did not use except for breakfast and coffee, the living room is comfortable - the second bathroom and bedroom are very nice as well. There is another fodorite who is staying there in December.
My email is Dawn Noel M at g mail dot com - feel free to email me with specific questions.
I loved the agency - I would live in that apartment if I could ;-).

Oh something else..to get a cab (we walked a lot of places but did take cabs to a few) there is a Westin right down the hill that has a huge cab line
Also - it you are out walking and exploring - stop here for a cafe con leche...best one!

It is right across from the coolest vertical garden (google Vertical garden madrid) the links were so long I didn't want to post them..

I Love the area of this Madrid apartment.I too would love to live there! My only gripe is that when I stay for a month it is far from a decent supermarket so a couple of times I end up having to take a cab back to the area-too much to carry!
