I have looked at the web sites of the Excelsior and the Argentina, but the Villa Dubrovnik looks more charming. Would appreciate info. Also looking for a place to stay in Hvar. Thanks.

Sorry, can't help you on the hotel, but we just returned from our Honeymoon, with a day in Dubrovnik. It was beautiful, the people very friendly, and the prices were great. We had a very good large pizza, and two cokes for what worked out to be $3 U.S. They are not one of the Euro currency countries, but every place we visted accepted Dollars or Euro.

Congratulations! Thanks for the info. I am trying to save money in Croatia because we will be on the Amalfi coast first! I was glad to hear you can pay in $$ or Euro. Were ATMs available in Dubrovnik as they are most places?

ATM's are everywhere in Dubrovnik, and I personally feel you should get the local money. Why would you want to pay in Euro or dollars which is not their money?

Ironically, however, in Montenegro the official currency is actually the euro (maybe not totally officially, but even the ATM's dispense the money in euro.)

Hi Texan, I saw an article in the LA Times that featured the Villa Dubrovnik and I agree, I would try that next time. I stayed at the Argentina, which was wonderful. If you get one of the villa rooms with a sea view, they have amazing charm (albiet pricey charm). The Villa D. is further south, so a long walk to the old city, but their website says it has a boat that takes you to the old city. Who knows with what frequency.

I agree with Grasshopper. I just got back from Croatia and stayed at both the Hotel Argentina and Hotel Komodor. An English man I met was checking out the hotels for insurance purposes and he said the Villa Dubrovnik was nice. It isn't cheap though. They have their own private boats that go to the Old Town.
