Does anyone recall seeing the music boxes and Limoncello made in Sorrento in Rome/Venice/Florence/Tuscany? I would like to make these purchases but did not plan on adding Sorrento or even CT this trip. Or would it be worth adding if prices are much higher than in other cities?

Sheila - If you're talking about inlaid wood, I've seen them on sale in Venice in the Rialto Bridge area.

There is an excellent limoncello called Valle dei Mulini, which is made by the Amalfi co-op of limoncello makers; it was served to me by Roman friends. It's the real thing and not any more expensive than on the Amalfi Coast, as I recall.

The problem is to find it. I once spent the better part of an afternoon dropping into every wine shop and bar in the centro storico of Rome. I think I finally found it in a tiny bar on via dei Pettinari just before the Ponte Sisto...

You might phone them from Rome and ask who carries their products.

I have seen it in shops in Venice, and it wasn't any more than I paid in Positano. I think I bought a bottle last time I was there in a little grocery store, but I saw it in windows of lots of stores.

You can buy Limoncello anywhere in Italy and even in the United States in most civilised areas. I bought some in an Italian convenience store as well as a restuarant in Pompeii. I was a little cheaper closer to Sorrento but you don't have to go there to buy it. It was my favorite find in Italy

Out here in California, I found limoncello in Trader Joe's and Beverages 'N More stores. BevMo had 3-4 choices too.

Wow! This message board does work!! Thank you everyone for the info. Anyone else have comments on the inlaid wood boxes? I bought one in 1993 in Sorrento and need to replace it!!! I have searched online and haven't seen any that are as nice.

don't know about the "italian" ones, but most of the inlaid wodden boxes in spain, come from china now.
