Anyone been to either of these Paris hotels?
1. Grand Hotel du Progres-- 50 rue Gay Lussac (Latin Quarter).
2. Hotel Gay Lussac- 29 rue Gay Lussac (Latin Quarter, too).
If anyone has stayed recently and could give me any details about them-- general price, how long you stayed, any view?, condition of rooms (although I really don't care about that- it's Paris!!), etc. it would be a huge help. I'm thinking I'm going to stay in one of these because they appear to be pretty cheap-- that's the biggest concern here.
Or if anyone has stayed in a hotel in a safe area in Paris (single young woman travelling alone) that's cheap, please post!!!

You might have better luck if you re-post w/ the names of the hotels in the thread title. There are hundreds of hotels in Paris and you'll improve the odds that someone who may have stayed at these two will see your question.

I don't think the Grand Hotel du Progres exists any more; I think they went out of business several years ago. The hotel next door (Andre Latin) took the property over. There is a hotel very nearby on the same street you can also check out that is okay and pretty moderate -- the Elysa Luxembourg.

It's probably not as cheap as you want, also check out
The Andre Latin is fairly cheap, also, and I think is okay. YOu'd have to check out ratings on Tripadvisor and try www.eurocheapo.com, also. YOu might also check out Hotel Suez, HOtel de la Sorbonne and Hotel College de France in that general area for budget options, although Gay Lussac is nice because it's off the main boulevard.

pakabug - Please try the PERREYVE HOTEL, 63 Rue Madame. Tel: 01-45-48-35-01. fax;01-42-84-03-30.
email; [email protected]
It has 30 rooms and situated in a quiet street near Luxembourg Gardens.
The corner bedrooms or attic rooms on the 6thy floor are the best.
We stayed there way back in 1980 - the very first hotel in Paris that we ever stayed in! Clean, neat, cheap & good location.
