Antibes' Picasso Museum Reopens

After being closed for the past year and a half for renovations, Antibes' Picasso Museum, housed in a 12th-century Grimaldi Castle overlooking the sea.
Picasso spent a lot of time in Antibes (and in a hill town, Cagnes-sur-Mer i believe nearby) and was offered a living and working space in the local art museum, in the ancient castle, in 1946 and he produced dozens of now acclaimed works here.
He later bequeathed these works to the city of Antibes, who in turn changed the name of their museum to honor him.
Antibes is one of my very favorite Riviera town - exuding the old-world atmosphere that many more modern towns have lost thru over development IMO.
The city is a great base for the Riviera - trains trundle from it up and down the coast constantly and several great hill towns are nearby (St Paul-de-Vence; Vence; Biot; Mougins, Cagnes; Grasse)

Thanks for the info PalenQ. Any idea regarding hours and days the museum is open? I went to the website and it still says simply that the museum is closed for renovation (until "first semester of 2008&quot.

We'll be spending a week on Cote d'Azur, based in St. Jean Cap Ferrat, and a trip to Antibes might be in order.

Thanks,

Sam

Thanks for the info, PalenQ. The museum was closed last summer which was disappointing since we stayed practically next door to it. We visited other museums though. We loved Antibes so a return trip will be something to look forward to.

Knoxvillecouple, are you staying in the same place you rented last year? Enjoy your trip!

Mariana -

We weren't there last year. I did spend a lot of time last year, on Fodors and elsewhere, looking for a place for our stay THIS year (first week of June on Cote d'Azur). Maybe that's the confusion?

I did end up picking an apartment/condo in St. Jean Cap Ferrat instead of Antibes.

I'd still like some info on opening days and hours for the Picasso Museum in Antibes if anyone has it.

Thanks,

Sam

I took the original post info from News from France newsletter but it gave no info on opening hours or any link

Just before our trip last July, I communicated with the museum using this email address and they did reply. Knoxvillecouple, perhaps you could email and ask exactly when it might open.

And, yes, you are right - I thought you went last summer! You will love the entire area.
