Ankara, Turkey - Can VISA easily be obtained at airport upon arrival?

We are arriving into Ankara, Turkey and want to know if a VISA can quickly be obtained upon arrival.
Our travel group suggests we get it in advance but the cost is almost $200 for two. According to postings on this website; the cost is much less if bought upon arrival.

Can anyone please share their recent experiences?

Thank you.

The easiest way is to buy your visa on arrival in Turkey. You arrive, go to a window, check the price of the visa for your country of birth, pay the money and get the visa. It couldn't be simpler. There was about a 5 to 10 minute wait. The price changes, depending on how much Turkish citizens are charged to enter other countries. For example, when I went to Turkey in 2007, the US government charged Turkish citizens $20 to enter the US. Therefore, as an American, I paid $20 to enter Turkey. If you are American you can pay in US currency. There have been times in the past when Turkish visas were $100 for Americans. I don't know the current visa rate but maybe someone just coming back from Turkey can post it.

I haven't flown into Ankara, but I did fly to Istanbul in July. As an American, I paid $20 USD upon arrival. Quick and easy. Not sure how much the visas are now, but Fodor's posters tcreath and P_M were there more recently. There is no need to purchase visas before you leave.

You must have the cash in dollars or euros. When we arrived in Istanbul, one traveler from Denmark had considerable difficulty in obtaining the visa because the ATMs were after passport control, and you cannot get through immigration without your visa.

We paid $20 as well and it couldn't have been easier. We too entered into Turkey through Istanbul but the line for the Visa is right next to the passport control lines. It seems like most nationalities that enter Turkey need a Visa and so they make it very easy to obtain. I read that cash was needed, and so we had it with us, but there was a sign on the glass window saying that they take Visa and Mastercard.

Sorry...I should have read Murat's post before I replied as he is obviously correct. Most countries can obtain a Visa in Turkey but there are a few that need advance Visas. You can find out that info by going to the Turkey Consolate's website. We came from the US.

Thank you so much for all your responses...we haven't left home yet and YOU ALL saved us almost $200 by not obtaining our VISA in advance.

Much thanks

We paid $20 at the border - came by bus from Bulgaria - in October 2008. We are US citizens and the only ones on the bus to have to acquire a visa, so there was no wait.
