Julia, I cannot thank you enough for the incredible amount of help you have given me in planning this trip--with all of the fits and starts! Although I have been looking at websites for what seems like days, somehow I missed that excellent map that you linked above.
Your photos are absolutely spectacular!
I will muse about this for a few days. We will arrive on a Friday afternoon and leave at the crack of dawn on Sunday so we only have one full day, and two nights..
One thing I have discovered is that most hotels, but not all, drop their rates substantially at the end of September. So from 1 October, even some of the renowned 4-star places drop to less than 200 euro, and some much below that figure..
If Capri were to me my main destination, I would plan to go the first week of October for that reason!
Again, many thanks for all of your help! Have a wonderful trip and please remember to show us your photos after you return!

Ek-
I lived on Capri (in Anacapri) for about 6 months. I personally would not choose to stay anywhere that is a 20 minute walk away from the center - ONLY because it is very difficult to get there with your luggage when you arrive and depart. Both the Casa Maria Antonio and the Villa Sogno are pretty centrally located.
I disagree about there not being a passeggiata in Anacapri. There is one, just slower, less crowded and less touristy than the one in Capri (which I personally prefered). Being centrally located means you can just walk out of your hotel and into the (relative) action.
The buses to get down to Capri ARE really crowded. Tip: Go to the head of the bus line which is NOT in the Piazza - walk down Via T. de Tommaso a ways and you will find the capolinea where it is much easier to get on a bus.
The only thing I would say about going in October - the prices drop for a reason. Many things literally shutter their doors at the end of September. If you don't mind a quieter island with some shops closed, by all means try October. In addition, the water tends to get rougher the later it gets so you do have a SLIGHTLY higher chance of cancelled ferries/traghetti in October versus September.
Hope this helps.

check out this site. See Capri in a day as it's a busy tourist location unlike Ischia. You can use this place as a stop-over and this allows you also to climb Vesuvio and Pompeii in a day and another day visiting the Amalfi coast.

I will be staying at La Minerva for 4 nights this coming June.
After reading the various comments, I e-mailed the hotel re info about a morning ferry to Positano (which I had planned on taking). The hotel manager informed me that during the "high season" there is a ferry that departs at approximately 10 am. and that the schedule is due out in mid May.

Thank you, Nnolen!
I received responses from both of those well-located Anacapri hotels and will now decide between the two. Both look truly lovely! There seem to be many wonderful places to stay on Capri including many with fairly reasonable prices! I am very excited about our visit in September!

I finally made a decision and booked B&B Il Sogno, in Anacapri, near the center, for our last two nights. Room rates range from 110 to 150 euro with buffet breakfast.
The 150-euro-room has a large sea-view terrace. They will pick us up at the port as a courtesy.

I had to smile when I read the TA reviews of our other top choice, Casa Mariantonia. One couple adored the hotel and included a photo of her, sitting at the breakfast table with a view of the hotels' orange grove in the background. On the table in front of her is a paper container of orange juice!
