Amsterdam Hotels with a Teen

My husband and I will be in Amsterdam with our 16 year old daughter in March. I'm having trouble finding a hotel that will accomodate the 3 of us in one room. We would like a centrally located 3-4 star hotel for around $200-$250 if possible. We'd be willing to pay more if the hotel was great. Ideally, we'd like a bar and/or restaurant at the hotel. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ignoring the two rather unhelpful tennis and fur coat posts above...try Ibis Amsterdam Centre. It's centrally located right by the main train station. Or try All Seasons Amsterdam City on Stadhouderskade. Both are in teh Accor group so you know what you're getting and will have triple rooms. Also try the Hotel De Roode Leeuw (4 star, very central, has triples but only a handful and there's a surcharge) or the Hotel Blyss Amsterdam, 3 star, near Leidseplein,Museumplein, Vondelpark and transport, has limited triples).

As you've found, triple rooms aren't super available in Europe so it requires a little digging around.

If you go to somewhere like Hotels.com and put in that you require a three person room you will find plenty of hotels in Amsterdam offering them.
You of course don't have to book it through them, though you will often get a better deal if you do.

Thanks so much to those of you with helpful replies. As to the others, I've never had such weird replies to my posts before! I'll start checking out the good ideas that you gave me though.

Try the Moevenpick. We reserved a superior room there as it had a sofabed for our teen daughter... we got upgraded to a junior suite which was even nicer. ;^)

You can try using Priceline's NYOP as the Moevenpick often comes up there... see the Netherlands forum at Trip Advisor. (look for "Bidding On a ...") While Priceline is officially only for double occupancy, I have found that speaking to a hotel directly after a winning bid can get you upgraded to a triple for little or no extra cost.

See also http://www.Hotwire.com... you can often figure out the hotels in advance. Use http://www.betterbidding.com to get the inside info.

I have looked at the Moevenpick and it looks nice. Is the location good? Also, wondering about the comfort of the sofa beds. Our daughter is 6 feet tall!

The location of the Moevenpick is fine. It's no more than a 10 minute walk to Damrak or Centraal Station. They also have a free shuttle plus there's not only a tram stop at the door but also a stop for the hop on hop off canal cruise.

Our daughter is 5 feet tall and a sound sleeper. She often doesn't bother to open up sofa beds as she can sleep anywhere.
The one in our suite was big though... she did open it and it was a double so a tall person could sleep at an angle and not have their feet poking out. I have read the Dutch are the tallest people in Europe so hopefully their beds and sofabeds reflect this! ;^)

Last year, we stayed in a triple at Hotel Aalders, which is quite close to the museumplein. It was 185 Euros/night, and in my notes, I noted that my daughter had an actual bed, not a cot or a foldout sofa bed. It was a nice hotel, but not luxurious.

Have you tried looking at apartments instead of hotels? I find it makes a better alternative when traveling with friends or family. Bedrooms for each and then you have the common areas, living, dining and kitchen. Having the kitchen takes the bite out of always having to rely on restaurants and cafes. You can get cereal, fruits and coffee to make your own breakfast and then stash away desserts, wine or snacks for late at night when watching TV together.

I have not looked for apartments in Ams but two European websites that may help are Home Away Holiday Rentals and Ownersdirect.com. I've used both of these places in France and Lisbon with success.
