Amsterdam Hotel suggestions
Wondering about Amsterdam Hotel suggestions that are under $100. We are two 60+ that would like to have a private bath, and possibly an elevator, and air-conditioning as features in a hotel during a vacation that we would like to take this summer. We would also like it to have a good view of a canal, and a good breakfast included in the price.
Not knowing the various neighborhoods in Amsterdam, but may be considering the Hotel Brouwer, a recommended hotel on this forum, we were just wondering about Fodorites' experiences with this hotel and it's surrounding neighborhood? Recommendations of similar hotels, perhaps along this same canal, would be great.
If other areas of Amsterdam are better, with similar hotels, please let us know about them.
Thanks.

In my opinion, you will not find a decent hotel for 70 euro, in summer, with A/C, ensuite, even without an elevator, on a canal. period. You will be very lucky to get something decent for 130euro.
Hotel Brouwer is very small and very popular, so you'd best book asap. Also, it is over your stated budget of $100, since a double is 95 euro, and there is no mention of A/C.

Thanks. I'm thinking that I will have to up my amount for a room and wondering, still, if there would be any recommendations from my dear Fodorites. I have taken several of them in the past and have never been disappointed. So, please help me in this area.

You might want to try the Hotel Acacia. It's been a few years since I have stayed there but I enjoyed it. It is in a great location (Jordaan) and on a canal. Here is the website : http://www.hotelacacia.nl/index_eng.php?page=1 . We stayed both in the hotel and the 'authentic' houseboat listed on their site. Have a great trip !

I haven't stayed in any hotels that had air-conditioning, since we don't travel in summer. Any that I can think of at reasonable budget don't have A/C either. Not sure how much you actually need it.
Another option is to search for B&B - there are a lot of those that are popular, but again not sure how easy to meet your criteria. Click on the B&B/Inns tab here:

I have stayed in several 3-star hotels in Amsterdam, but for sure you have to pay at least 120euros for a double room. More if the hotel in on a canal. A/C is really not essential in Holland as it hardly ever gets that hot! I am going again in the beginning of April and this time I am trying out a new budget design hotel called NL Hotel near Leidse plein. We're paying 350e for 3 nights. I booked it through Venere.com. Some other hotels in the same area I have tried are Hotel Vondel (very nice but pricier as it is 4 stars), ACH Leidse Square Hotel and the Prinsenhotel. To me their location is really the best with handy public transport routes to different directions (even a local bus 197 to the airport from Leidseplein!)and walking distance to most museums and main shopping streets. They are also only a stone's through from the wonderful Vondelpark.
