There are lots of train connections. From Amsterdam it would take about 4 hours - from Brussels more like 1 hour. If you plan on taking a lot of trains, buy a Eurail pass. If not, you could probably wait to book while on your trip (sometimes US travel agents charge crazy fees for European train reservations).
