Amalfi Questions
I'm grateful for this fabulous site! Any recommendations for finding affordable accomodations for 2 to 4 weeks on the Amalfi Coast in August through Sep? I fell in love with Positano several years ago, and I've read that Amalfi's neighbor Atrani may be a good place to stay too. I'm interested in apartments, B&Bs, or any other options that won't break my bank. I'm also thinking about taking a language class in Salerno before my Amalfi stay. Please help with advice on Amalfi and/or Salerno! Thanks!!

I'm so jealous...a month on the Amalfi coast!!! Wow! I stayed in Positano a year ago and I loved it. I can't recommend any B&B's, but you can check
www.initaly.com for accomodations.
Here is the link to Amalfi accomodations.

Have a wonderful time. I'm not sure if Gennaro is still taking people out on his boat(in Positano, look for l'uomo e il mare), but if he's still there, I highly recommend it. It will be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life.

www.sorrentoinfo.com has some apartments and villas. Venere.com will have a few. You might try slowtrav.com as they seem to have more rental information/weblinks.

Atrani is a good base, look at the B&B/Hostel/Apartments 'a scalinatella'
http://www.hostelscalinatella.com/
They own rooms and apartments all over the village.
We stayed in a private room 4 years ago on my brothers recommendation and while basic was clean and affordable. I like my 5* hotels but would stay there again.
After a few days in Atrani you will feel like a local. Nice little shingle beach and a 5 minute walk into Amalfi, cut through the restaurant rather than the road tunnel.
To get from Salerno to Amalfi take a boat. Cheap and quick and interesting.
You can also get the bus from Amalfi to Pompei.

My husband and I stayed in the apartment names La Cisterna in Positano last summer for 10 days. It's wonderful!!! Beautiful HUGE terrace looking out over the water. The one named Torre Sponda is very cool! No one was staying there so we got to look around.
