Amalfi Coast - Accommodation
My wife and I will be traveling to France and Italy in 2004. Looking to spend a week on the Amalfi Coast before coming home. Any recommendations for accommodation - would prefer Positano.

Hi Lukey,
We recently spent a week at the Le Sirene in Praiano, about 7 km from Positano. I can highly recommend it.

What's your budget? We stayed at Albergo Miramare for 290 euros/night, but it was their best room and we had an incredible private terrace.
You can look at Fodor's Rants n' Raves section to get a start. I also did some research on italyby.com, which has the great pictures of most hotels listed. It should give you a better idea of the quality of accommodations and (better yet) an idea of the view. If you can afford it, you definitely want to get a room with the best view possible. That's the best part of Positano. There are lots of threads on hotels in the AC. Many people like the Poseidon and the Villa Rosa.
I'd recommend Positano over Amalfi and other towns on the AC--it's much more relaxing and picturesque. A week there sounds like the perfect place to end your vaca.

We stayed at the Villa Franca. It was lovely--way up high in Positano with spectacular views and pretty rooms with tile floors and walls. That was ten years ago, tho--don't know if it's till as nice. If I had the money I'd stay at the Sirenuse or San Pietro--both high on Conde Nast's gold lists.

Another vote for Miramare. We stayed in room 210 for our honeymoon (the big room with the gigantic terrace) and couldn't have been more pleased with the room...or the specatcular view. The staff was very friendly and gracious, and the room was wonderful. Lots of steps to the hotel, but there's lots of steps everywhere in Positano. Enjoy!
