Honeymooning in Amalfi Coast

We are getting married on June 3 next year and are planning to honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast. Having researched some of the 4/5 star hotels, they are looking extremely expensive for a one/two week stay. Does anyone know of lovely hotels or villas that are not over the top in terms of budget but that are good in terms of service and amenities ? They do not need to be in the centre. Also, is it better to rent a car, or use public transport and take excursions to visit Pompei and the surrounding areas ?

Thanks for your suggestions...anxious planner !

Hi,
Try the Tramonto D'Oro in Praiano. It is situated on the cliff over looking the sea and it has fabulous views of Positano. It is a lovely hotel with wonderful owners. I think the price is about 120 euros and up. There is a fabulous roof top pool and breakfast is served on the terrace that has the commanding views. At that time of the year you could rent a car as the traffic should not be too bad. There is great public transportation up and down the Amalfi coast and onto further destinations. You can decide if you would rather drive or take a bus and trains. It will be heavenly.

Le Sirene in the town of Praiano is highly recommended by one of our most beloved posters, ira.

Type in "Le Sirene" in the search box to get his review.

We recently stayed in Albergo California in Positano (also called Hotel California Positano). We paid 165€ per night for a huge room with small balcony and sea view, air conditioning, breakfast, TV and minifridge, and small jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. There was noticeable traffic noise though.

The Miramare in Positano is a super popular honeymoon hotel. There is a particular room (perhaps 204) that is supposed to be just perfect for honeymoons, anniversaries, anything romantic. The Miramare will be much less expensive than Le Sirenuse, Il Pietro, and Palazzo Sasso. It will be more than Albergo California though

For good value in Positano, which I do suggest, try Albergo California as mentioned and Villa Tartana. The Casa Albertina has fantastic views but also some killer steps. Have fun !

Hi M,

You can stay in Praiano, 6 km E of Poitano, for a lot less than in Positano.

In addition to www.lesirene.com (ask for Room 12 if you stay there) check out http://www.hotelondaverde.com/

Happy honeymoon

I think that public transportation will be better for you than a car.
