Amalfi Coast

Hi Fellow Travelers

I am planning a trip to Italy for several weeks this September. Plan is for several days in Rome, followed by a week on the Amalfi Coast, followed by a week in Tuscany or Umbria. I am wondering if anyone has some insight on staying in the small village of Conca dei Marini? I would love to stay in Positano but dear wife has lower back problems and the climbing up and down steps may be too much for her. Suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Sorrento may be for you. It has good transportation connections for the region and is mostly on one level. The marinas are many steps down but there are cheap busses.

Almost all of the coast is very vertical - as in hundreds of steps. Agree that Sorrento has a flat center that will make life much easier. Also it has easy transit to Pompeii by train, Capri by ferry and down the coast by ferry or bus.

I agree that Sorrento would be a good choice. But you could also stay at "ground level" in Positano at any number of hotels near the dock, shopping, and beach. One of them, Buca di Bacco (sp?) has beautiful rooms and a very good restaurant.
