Does anyone have comments on the Alpujarras area for touring small villages .Yegan,Bubion,Pitras and the La Taha villages around Mecina

what does "topping" mean?! I will be interesting in replies to this posting but "topping" doesnt get me far. Have seen it used before though on this board so presume it has technical significance!

hi duke,<BR>Can only comment on the Poqueira valley-the villages of Bubi&oacute;n, Pampaneira, Capileira. They have very interesting architecture-the houses are very simple, rugged, block like structures with flat roofs, constructed of adobe then whitewashed and look like Berber structures-very Moorish. For a long time this area was quite poor and very isolated. It was the last refuge of the Moors after they were driven out of Granada. These villages are quite laid back, have their large share of counter culture, new age residents who come down for the inexpensive, easy going, accepting, contemplative life style. Not much to do other than commune with nature, hike from village to village, horseback ride, shop for handicrafts... Don't know about Yegan, Pitras and Mecina. If you decide to go, I highly recommend that you read Chris Stewart's &quot;Driving Over Lemons&quot; about setting up his new home in Orgiva. The second half of the book is really very, very funny.
