You might want to get a copy of the red Michelin guide, which has town maps and shows the location of most hotels and restaurants. It's also very useful for indicating the main routes into and out of a given town.

StCirc, you were once again correct. I faxed the Hotel Le Vieil Alby and did get a room for 45 euros. It seems that some of the smaller hotels prefer fax to email. I'm assuming it will be a pretty basic room, but others are saying that the restaurant is quite good.

The Hostellerie San Antoine is on a pretty quiet street, so I doubt if noise would be a problem.
