If I remember correctly, Barcelona was pretty nice wasn't it? I also think I enjoyed Copenhagen. I remember that the airport had really nice floors, an open spaces and lots of shops to keep you busy.

My favorites are Nice (because of the to-die-for faience that I bought at a kiosk there) and Boston (because I could take the subway straight from the terminal to my apartment in Cambridge.)

I agree that Singapore is one of the best airports. Also I visited the airport in Frankfurt Germany in 1997 on a stopover to India and thought that it was pretty nice. The Nashville airport in my opinion was pretty nice as well.

The worst airports I have ever been to are the ones in India (I've been to 4, all in major cities). Detroit it pretty crappy also.

It may not always be better in the Bahamas...I appreciate an airport with clean restrooms and radar. On a recent trip the Nassau airport offered one out of the two...

I was glancing thru this post and thought to my self..wow! these people really get around!! I then added up my airport list and found that I have been a few places too, mostly in the US and some not-so-glamorous places. Very little international travel and sadly no European sites yet.
heres my list as far as I can remember:

Cleveland
Pittsburgh
Miami
Houston Hobby
Houston Intercontinental
Akron Canton
Dallas DFW
Dallas Love
Detroit
Minneapolis-St. paul
Rapid City SD
San Francisco
Los Angeles LAX
Milwaukee
Santa Ana SNA
Boston
Chicago O'hare
Chicago Midway
Seattle
Charlotte
Raliegh Durham
Little Rock
Tampa
Atlanta
Orlando
Tulsa
Syracuse
Buffalo
Nashville
Memphis
Columbus
Cincinnati
Columbia SC
Baltimore Washington
Las Vegas
Lexington
Louisville
Newark
Philadelphia
St. Louis
Jacksonville
Tokyo
Seoul
Toronto
Taipei
Kingston
Montego Bay
Osaka
Nagoya

Next week i get to add:
Bogota
Cali

No real standout faves but I do like SNA, small but can get to anywhere from there. Cleveland is home and easy for me.

Never did like Detroit but it's been awhile.

Best - Juneau International Airport.

When our small airliner landed, it seemed like the entire airport staff greeted us at the gate. A few yards away were our bags, waiting for us (with more staff to help us out). Another few yards and you walk out the door into gorgeous Alaska. It's definitely not your typical hours-long airport ritual.

Flew into Missoula, MT a few years ago. Walked a few feet from the plane to pick up luggage and another few feet to our rental car. Loved it.

Been to:

Manchester (UK)
Birmingham (UK)
Heathrow
CDG
Munich
Berlin
Vienna
Tenerife
Ibiza airport (whatever it's called!)
Milan
Rome
Venice
San Francisco
LAX
Honolulu

Best of those I've been to so far is Munich - excellent, especially after the new terminal was completed.

Most disappointing:

Venice - nowhere near big enough to cope with the volume of people it needs to. 45 minutes wait to check in, similar to get through to departure.

Berlin Tegel - "departure lounge" was a box, with a duty free shop the size of my downstairs toilet. NOTHING else there, no other shop, no cafe/bar to get a bite to eat, just a drinks machine.

Can't really remember what CDG was like as it's so long since I was there, but will experience it again in June....

``My favorite airport is the one on the Big Island in Hawaii.''

Would that be Kona or Hilo?

``Worst - CDG, JFK, either of the DC airports, Atlanta''

DCA and IAD, BWI and IAD or DCA and BWI??

Personally, I hate LHR. I don't go to an airport to shop and some of the out of the way gates are absolute pits. Disgusting.

Schiphol ranks as No. 1.

Best: Schipol, Rio de Janeiro (new terminal), San Francisco (international terminal)

Worst: JFK (Filthy and you still need to take your shoes off for security). Paris CDG (The designer was on some hallucinogen), Sao Paulo Guarulhos (nothing much to do while you wait).

Best : Singapore Changi, particularly because you can pay $10 to enter a lounge which has showers, a fitness area, free soft drinks and snacks which is great for a long transit. Alice Springs and Atatuki (Cook islands) for something a bit different.

Worst : Frankfurt and CDG.

Looking forward to Kaui and Koh Samui later in the year from comments on previous posts !

Best: Alicante, small, usually efficient, easy to negotiate. Manchester, apart from public transport which is lousy.
Worst: Charles de gaulle, closely followed by JFK

Well I live about 15 minutes by car from JFK and while at one time it was filthy dirty, to some degree some of the airlines have cleaned up their acts and others are in the process of. The opening of the Air Train has made switching terminals much easier but I can still understand why some consider it awful...actually visitors to the US who come in through JFK will feel most agitated what with the fingerprinting requirements imposed on foreigners by the US government...

I don't particularly like Heathrow especially when I have to transfer terminals and hassle with new security checks and long corridors. Last April, I had to transfer from an arriving BA flight from JFK in terminal 4 to a flight to Dublin in terminal 2 and between waiting for the airline connecting bus, going through security again, going through UK immigration (despite the fact I was going to the Republic of Ireland, it took an hour and three quarters and almost caused me to miss my connecting flight.

I also am not fond of Frankfurt...in January I came in on a flight from Zurich and it came to rest miles from the terminal and there seemed to be lots of planes around for which they have no jet way and by the time the bus took me to the terminal and up several flights of stairs, well let's just say this I was not terribly impressed. Another time I was connecting from London to go to JFK (don't ask me why) and again no jet way, a long bus ride, up stairs, a shuttle and then another security check almost caused me again to miss the connecting flight (my luggage certainly did)....

I love John Wayne, came into DFW this past xmas and it was fine, ATL I haven't had problems with, MCO is nice, EWR is fine. CDG sucks, AMS is fine and ZRH was fine this past January.

Many people mentioned JFK. I think it's an alright airport, and it's really many small airports in one. Each terminal is seperate - with its own dominant airline and architecture. Immigration/customs are also spreaded out in different terminals.

Therefore, one person experience at JFK can be totally different from another. And it does have a efficient AirTrain between the terminals and to Howard Beach or Jamaica for the subway/LIRR.
