Airports you love & hate
Following from another thread, give your best and worst airports + those you have had the pleasure (or not) of visiting :
Mine - Best = Singapore Worst = Jakarta Visited = Aberdeen Adelaide Alice Springs Amsterdam Antigua Athens Atlanta Bali Bangkok Barbados Barcelona Basle Blackpool Bologna Bordeaux Bremen Bruxelles Budapest Cairns Carcassone Chicago Copenhagen Detroit Dominica Dublin East Midlands Edinburgh Exeter Frankfurt Fuertenventura Geneva Girona Glasgow Gothenburg Gran Canaria Grenada Guadeloupe Guadeloupe (St Francois) Guernsey Hong Kong Ibiza Inverness Jakarta Kuala Lumpur Lanzarote Larnaca Lisbon London - Gatwick London - Heathrow Los Angeles Luleo Luton Madrid Marakesh Marseille Martinique Melbourne Milan Minorca Montpellier Munich Newcastle Newquay Nice Nimes NY - Newark Oslo - new Oslo - old Ovda Paris - CDG Paris - Orly Penang Prestwick Rome San Francisco Seoul Singapore St Lucia Stansted Stockholm - Arlanda Stockholm - Bromma Sydney Tai Peh Teeside Trollhattan Turin Vienna Warsaw Zurich Peter |
Hmm
forgot to include : Turin One of the worst ! Peter |
Best in my experience - Zurich and Frankfurt
Worst - Paris CDG |
Best for me: Hong Kong, and Amsterdam.
I suppose I should be thankful that the worst airport I can think of is Montreal. Maybe I should get out more ... Anselm |
As a Washingtonian, I can't STAND Dulles! After visiting lovely and efficient airports abroad it is so depressing to come home and wait 20 minutes for herding onto a "people mover" to reach the terminal. Thank goodness there's construction underway to bring that place into the 21st century. . .
|
I don't have a problem with many airports, except CDG it has to be the most poorly organized airport ever!
|
I agree with Singapore as the best. How can your jaw not drop open as you are whisked along miles of moving beltways through millions of orchids?
But then they are the only ones who got the subway thing totally right as well. |
The best is the one taking me to Europe and the worst is the one taking me home! ;)
|
Wow, this makes my mind swirl! I have been in so many airports, it is difficult to decide which is the "worst" and "best".
My favorite 3: 1. Rome - L. D. Vinci 2. Schilpol 3. Narita, Tokyo Least favorite: 1. JFK (dirty dirty dirty!) 2. Vancouver (freaky layout and disorganized IMHO) 3. Wuhan, China I have been to SO many airports, I can't list them all. |
TexasAggie has it about right, far as I can tell.
|
Peter, you sure get around :)
|
Best: Zurich and Amsterdam
Worst: CDG! Tracy |
I HATE de Gaulle, for a variety of reasons, not least of which someone there managed to send my bags to Luxor instead of Luxembourg, and it's poorly marked and easy to get lost in. Also don't like da Vinci much, very hard to find what you're looking for (at least, if what you're looking for is the Northwest counter).
Can't say I really love any airports, though I was just in Luton, and the airport itself was very nice, although a PITA to get to. Other ones I've been to, in no particular order: Los Angeles Orange County DFW Love Field Newark Maui Honolulu Philadelphia Gatwick Allentown Pittsburg Detroit Frankfurt am Main Olbia Somewhere near Ibbenbueren Atlanta Orlando Edinburgh Providence Albuquerque |
Oh, and all the DC airports, Reagan, Baltimore-Washington, and Dulles, also whatever the closest one to Stanford is (San something), and Amarillo (or maybe it was Lubbock)
|
Best: Singapore - arrange a long enough layover to take the free city tour
Dubai: great window shopping and people-watching Worst: any US airport - I resent having to pay for a luggage cart (and yes, I do travel light) |
Favorite: Munich
Least favorite: Moscow Sheremetyevo |
My favorite and worst are the same airport, Detroit.
If you are flying Northwest, the new terminal is fabulous (well, I haven't been to Singapore). But if you are flying another airline into the old part, you swear you are in a third world bus station. And the international terminal is sooo 70's mod squad with a hair-net cafeteria and 24 hour vending machines. |
Well I'm not nearly as well travelled as some of the rest of you, but in my limited experience, my favorite airport is London Heathrow, for the shopping. I actually factor shopping time into my schedule when I've come home from the UK.
I also like the way that DFW is laid out, it's a short walk from the gate to the baggage claim to the parking lot and it's all on one level. My airport resume includes: (In the U.S.) LAX Long Beach DFW Phoenix Las Vegas Chicago O'Hare Salt Lake City Minneapolis Cleveland Atlanta Denver (old & new) Sarasota Honolulu Outside the U.S. Mazatlan Puero Vallarta Cancun Belize City San Pedro (Belize) Madrid Azores London Heathrow Tangier, Morocco Algeciras, Spain Palma de Majorca, Spain |
KellieBellie....you are so right about Detroit. I get embarrassed when I have to pick someone up at the old terminal. It's much worse than the old Northwest Terminal which is now not even in use.
|
Yeah, I assumed all the other airlines would move into Northwest's old hand-me-down terminal which was much better than where they are now. I never understood that.
