As far as I am concerned the best (and a "very good' one too) hotel is right at Heathrow. It's the Hilton which is connected via an enclosed walkway from Term. 4. It's not the cheapest, but it beats any of the others for sheer convenience. (all the others you need to take the Hoppa Bus or a taxi-the bus does charge too). You can also take the luggage trolleys right over to the Hilton door, and since there is a supply of them you can use one to go back over to the a/p for your flight. We've stayed there a couple of times and have been quite pleased. The rooms are smallish, but comfortable and people normally don't stay more then one night anyway.

De, if you use Priceline, you will get one of the following hotels. According to www.biddingfortravel.com, the 4-stars have been going for about $70 USD and the 3-stars for about $58 USD. If you're interested in using PL, check out the BFT site. I have no connection to either site.

4 Star
Sheraton Skyline
Crowne Plaza

3 Star
Sheraton Heathrow
St. Giles Hotel
Thistle London Heathrow
Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel

Dear De

As far as Cape Town goes, I would also recommend Amiene van der Merwe-she lives in Cape Town. E-mail her at: [email protected]

DE,

IF your flight leaves from Terminal 4, then the Hilton is by far your best option. For ALL other terminals however it's NOT!

There are quite a few hotels right near terminals 1-3. The Radisson Edwardian (it's more upscale than your usual Radisson) used to be considered the best - perhaps this has changed. I don't think you can go very wrong with the Marriott, Crowne Plaza or Sheraton Skyline (not the other Sheraton) either.

Hope this helps,
Andre

Message: Check out this website which lists all the nearby hotels. I think I stayed at the Travelodge and took the hoppa bus to Heathrow which was GBP 2.50 I believe. Very convenient.

http://www.travelguide.uk.com/southengland/heathrow_hotels2.htm
