I am flying from JFK-CDG later this week and was wondering about checking in. I booked the flight through delta.com because I am flying a regular Delta flight back from NCE.

So my question is, should I check in on Air France's website for the departure codeshare or should it be delta.com?

I'm worried that if I check in on Air France's website, it would somehow invalidate the second leg of the flight that is operated by Delta on its own, thus leaving me unable to check in when I return home.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Then you should check in on the site of the airline with it's name on your outgoing ticket and your reservation/ticket info on its website..

All one ticket. JFK-CDG on departure on Air France, then NCE-JFK on delta on return. It was booked on delta.com.

If I put the confirmation number from delta in on Air France's site, it brings me up the reservation with a reference number. I was just thinking that if I checked in on the departure on Air France's site, which operates that plane as a codeshare with delta, would delta not find that I checked in.

I fly Delta-AF-KLM codeshare all the time with tickets always bought at Delta.com. I have always checked in at the actual (operating) carrier of the first leg of each segment. When I tried to check in to a KLM flight using the Delta site, I think the message told me to go to the operating carrier (KLM in this case) for check-in.

Do they still have paper airline tickets?

I haven't seen those in at least 7 years.

I always have an e-ticket that I can access on my Droid.

If you have an e-ticket and an itin. it will tell you who is operating the flight.

If you are flying Delta at JFK, you use self-check-in machines.

Air France is Terminal 1.

Delta is Terminal 4.

JFK is my home airport.

Yes - but if it's code share - it depends on which airline is actually flying - it can go either way. If the plane is Air France, then it's their terminal. If you go to the website and put in this info the seat selection and check in should be right there - just use your ticket/reservation code.

Just be sure you go to the right terminal at the airport.

IME, it doesn't really make that much difference if you check in online anyway, I presume you have a seat reservation, right? That is assuming you are checking bags.

Once I checked in online for an Air France flight to Paris (at IAD) and the line for people who had done that was about twice as long as the line of people who hadn't, so it took even longer in line.

Well, if it is an e ticket then the itin. should state what terminal the flight is leaving from.

If it says Terminal 1 it is Air France.

If it is Terminal 4 it is Delta.

I always check in on line when flying Delta.

However, if you want a special meal you have to call Delta.

I have a feeling this is a Delta Flight.

We always get an e-mail prompt from Delta re check-in, even if it is a codeshare. We check in on line and go to the Delta check-in at the airport to drop luggage.

Out of atlanta, so on Delta all the time. You usually do check in on the airline that is actually operating the flight. I have had instances where I could not complete check in on Delta for an AF flight.
It won't affect your return trip, so don't worry.
