After Amsterdam and before London - where to go?

Am travelling to Amsterdam in July for a couple of days, so appreciate all those suggestions. We then have a couple of days to fill before heading to the UK (Canterbury) and not sure what to do, where to go that would be fairly convenient. (Plan to take the ferry from Calais to Dover.) Ideas about what/where between the two? And - What might be the best way to get to Calais?

Brugge, or possibly Ghent or Antwerp. Are you driving or taking a bus or train? If you can try and get to Brugge you will not be dissappointed. Apart from the antiquity of the place and its wonderful canal system, embracing streets and streets of centuries old buildings, you can visit the Goeninge Museum (art), the Gruunthuis (merchants home) and Our Lady's Church (for its Michaelangelo, amongst other works of art). Climb the cloth hall tower, visit the Town Hall and spend some time in one of the small breweries.

Paris would be good too. It's a convenient train ride from Amsterdam, and then from Paris to London.

Thanks - Antwerp, or Brugge...will check it out! (going to Paris for a week after England) We'll not have a car at the Amsterdam point of the trip. Not sure what's best - train from Amsterdam? Thanks

Brugge - it's absolutely beautiful! Catch the train from Amsterdam and then walk or cycle! The bike ride along the Damme is very scenic and not too strenuous, buy a picnic lunch first and throw in your back pack. the town itself is picture postcard perfect.

Another vote for Brugge, the train is very easy from Amsterdam. Loved Hotel Prinsenhof.

There are trains from Amsterdam to Brugge almost every hour with a change in Antwerp.

The trip takes about 3 1/2 hours.

Try looking up the German Railway. I think it's the best rail site.

gawr,
You can take a train from Bruge to London. However, you will be going to Brussels for a train change.

The whole trip is a bit under 4 hours.

The walk from the train station in brugge to the tourist center is about 15 minutes.

You can also take the train direct from Bruges to Lille and change to the Eurostar there.
