Affordable flights to Italy?
I am flying from Atlanta to Italy in mid-June. We are staying in Chianti, just south of Florence. Every flight I have found is over $1000. Any tips or websites to find a better deal?

Hi m,
I use http://airtravelcenter.com/onetrav.htm
(because they allow open-jaw)and then check the airline to see if they can match the price.
Also check www.mobissimo.com for RTs.
It is still early for June. You should see lower prices in mid-March.

Actually $1000 for mid-june is pretty good. Friends of mine went DC to Rome in mid-June 2004 and checked every other day or so for months (starting in Feb.) They gave up in early May when the prices started climbing (then ended up driving to Newark and paying $1000/ticket).
It won't hurt to keep checking for the next month or so, however.

Agreed. My prediction is that air fares to Europe and elsewhere are going nowhere but up in the summer and beyond, partly due to the fact that our President has just proposed a security fee to be added to air fares, to the tune of 5.50 per flight segment. The airlines are gearing up for a big fight on this one, but my guess is that the proposal will pass, notwithstanding the opposition.
