Activities in Rothenburg???

We'll be there for 2 nights and one full day and we're staying at Gasthof Griefen. I know about the Watchman's Tour. Would you suggest we do that the evening we arrive or the second evening? And suggestions for meals and/or drinks? What else is on your "Must See" list for Rothenburg? I'm looking forward to walking around and exploring the town. The Christmas market sounds fun as well. Thanks!

Rothenburg offers excellent photo opportunities because of the restoration efforts on the old buildings, walls, etc. Other than that (and that is very good) and a couple of touristy museums, it's mostly walking around to admire the buildings and signs, and shopping. Though tourist group watching can be interesting throughout the day.

The Night Watchman's tour was great and we liked walking along the city walls. We enjoyed the Midieval Criminal Museum - great sense of what life was like and a great collection of weird torture devices!

Otherwise - as Rufus stated - it's just a beautiful city to walk around.

Oooo- the criminal museum sounds fun- thanks! Anything else? I'm concerned we're going to get bored... Most people suggest 1 night and a day....

There is a horse and carriage ride around town (tired looking horses and not the most pleasant smelling ride), shopping --the gift stores are big--especially the ones that sell Christmas ornaments, a treacherous climb to the top of the rathaus tower (it gets very narrow and there isn't much to haul yourself up with), walking the medieval walls is popular. There was a concert in the center of town when we were there (an American student orchestra touring Europe), and there is a church with some notable art -- St. Jacobs I think. We were there for 2 days and 2 nights and that was fine for us. The town is very, very photogenic and you will be taking lots of photos.

I think you'll be fine with 2 nights and 1 full day. We were actually there 3 nghts - but one was Christmas Eve and that kept us occupied.

The town is just fun to walk around. All sorts of neat shops, wonderful ironwork decorating the doors above the shops. The Christmas store (Kathe W something....can't remember right now) is right off the main square and is fabulous. They will even ship stuff back to the states for you. There was a concert in the big church off the square but we missed it.

Mrs. Fly did enjoy the Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas store. It has just about everything Christmasy you can think of at every price level.

It was so hot the day we were there that I didn't look around the store much--I found a fan that was at least churning the hot air and stood by it while Mrs. Fly fondled the Christmas goodies for over an hour.
