Accommodation in Aberdeen
We are travelling throughout the UK in July 2011 and will be in Aberdeen for 2 nights July 30 & 31.
I would like suggestions for where to stay. We aren't planning on spending too much time in the room since on July 30, we are driving up from Edinburgh and planning on stopping along the way to see whatever interests us. We will be out of Aberdeen most of July 31 visiting nearby towns where family grew up.
Thank you, Debbie

So sorry, here are the answers:
1. our budget is a question at the moment. Our travel agent found a hotel for $358 CAD/nt and then we found a Holiday Inn for about 100 GBP/nt. We want something clean and comfortable, but affordable. If we could find something ~150 GBP/nt, that would be great.
2. "We" include myself & my husband and our 21 yr old son and 18 yr old daughter
3. It doesn't have to be IN Aberdeen as we will be travelling 40 miles to Fraserburgh then to another village near Inverurie.
Thank you,
Debbie

Accommodation in Aberdeen is usually reasonably priced with a four star hotel usually under £100 a night. The Copthorne Hotel and Simpsons Hotel offer some of the highest standard of accommodation in Aberdeen. Both have a four star tourist board rating and are within walking distance of a range of attractions.
The best value budget hotels are the Travelodge and Thistle Caledonian Hotel both of which are situated in the city centre. They offer rooms starting at £60 a night and are furnished with all the basic amenities that you will require for a comfortable stay.

Our travel agent found a hotel for $358 CAD/nt
That's about £225 - a totally outrageous rate for anything other than a suite in a 5-star luxury hotel. Travel agents - bunch of rapacious thieves the lot of 'em. A quick check on laterooms.com shows the Copthorne avaiable for £56 and £71 for the 30/31st July respectively. Plenty of other places avaialble in a similar price bracket. Tell your TA to take a hike and book directly yourself.
