A week abroad with kids in November - where would you go?

I want to plan a trip to Europe with my kids from November 4th to November 13th. We will fly from New York and prefer EWR airport. The cheapest ticket is to Paris, but there's also reasonable flights to Rome, Athens. Istanbul is not too expensive either and is a place I have interest visiting.
Here's the catch: I've been to Lisbon, the Algarve, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, Rome. Kids have been to all of these except Rome, which I'd love to take them. But I also want to visit new places, and I'm not super keen on feeling too cold so cities that are on top of my list like Prague don't seem too attractive for November. I have a friend in Nice who told me to go there from Paris and travel around that area.

I'm feeling a bit lost with options and ideas. Nine days is not that much time either especially when you put travel in between. Please share some good ideas? My kids are 10 and 12. I'm thinking more city travel than beach, of course, and we like museums, parks, good food and rich culture. Thank you!

My Greek friends complain about the rain in November so I would avoid that part of the world including Turkey. We have had beautiful weather in Andalusia in November on two trips there. You could see Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada.

I like HappyTrvlr's suggestion of Andalusia, to include Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada. I think November would be a perfect time of year. It's much too hot during the summer months. We were in Seville in late September/early October in 2017, and it was still in the low to mid 90's. So I would think November would be very pleasant. You have the amazing Alhambra in Granada, beautiful Alcazar in Seville, and the magnificent Mezquita in Cordoba.

Or another suggestion is Provence. Beautiful scenery, small villages, parks, markets, and good food. I bet they would like the Pont Du Gard. And visiting the asylum in St. Remy where Van Gogh lived for a year. Les Baux has a very interesting castle and the Carrieres et Lumieres in the quarry.

ah, thank you! I haven't thought about Andalusia, I'll look into it as an option. Hopefully there might be easy flights from Paris to that area...

Can one visit Provence and make its way to Nice easily for at least one day there, you think?

Southern Spain, maybe Sicily. But otherwise I wouldn't be planning much 'outdoorsy' stuff. IMO many European cities are at the best in Nov/Dec and there is so much to see and do - weather be damned. If the weather is awful, concentrate on indoors sites If you got good (or even just decent-ish) weather that would be a bonus and you could plan a day trip out into the countryside. Nov 4 - 13 (assuming that is the total time including flights) will give you 7.5 partly jet lagged days free on the ground. I'd stick to one city -- and IMO you really can't go wrong picking any major city. I think Rome would be perfect really.

True, that's one good point, it's not a lot of time really. Rome would be nice and my kids would like it but it was the last place I have visited in Europe so I'm leaning more towards arriving in Paris - it's always nice to be there, plus my kids don't really remember much from our visit there with them -- but then I think of my "places-I've-been-to" list and think I could prob squeeze a quick flight or train ride somewhere else - we may not need 7 full days in Paris either

A week abroad with kids in November - where would you go?

We have done many trips to Europe in November around
Thanksgiving. Any of the large cities will work. Andalusia is a good choice if you want to be out of the cities. We also enjoyed Crete.

I think Andalusia is a good choice, also. THere are nonstop flights from Gatwick, CDG and FRA and AMS, to name a few places. I think United uses EWR as a hub and they would definitely go to CDG and FRA nonstop. Vueling budget airline flies there from CDG. Easyjet which is my favorite European budget airline flies from Gatwick and Geneva. Also look into Malaga, there are sometimes more flights there than to SVQ. Easyjet flies there from at least 6-10 Europen cities nonstop, one is CDG.

I don't think you have time to combine Nice with anything in only a week, it isn't near any other place you mention. I would include Seville, Cordoba and Malaga without Granada myself. It's just too far away from the others and thus would take up more time presuming you didn't fly into there. Because then you'd have to go to/from it to perhaps Cordoba, just would eat up a lot of time when you only have a week, I think. So I was thinking more fly in/out of Malaga or SVQ, go to Cordoba in-between. That's even a lot in a week probably and Cordoba might be better as a day trip so you don't have to move hotels/pack etc. So maybe just Seville and Cordoba. Or Malaga and Seville, actually, RENFE claims it's only a two hour train ride between them and you can get direct trains. The train does go through Cordoba, though (one hr there then another hr to Seville). And Malaga does have a beach right there. Of course you can't really go in the water anywhere in Europe in November. Unless you are pretty hardy, water temp would be maybe 65F.

Paris is your best bet because there will be countless things to do for all age groups. There is no guarantee of good weather anywhere.

If you decide that you want to show Rome to your kids, Rome is definitely the place to go, though.

We loved Istanbul and hope to go back. It is a fascinating city. You might be able to include a trip to Cappadocia as well.
